Synopsis: Violet Ambrose is grappling with two major issues: Jay Heaton and her morbid secret ability. While the sixteen-year-old is confused by her new feelings for her best friends since childhood, she is more disturbed by her “power” to sense dead bodies – or at least those that have been murdered. Since she was a little girl, she has felt the echoes the dead leave behind in the world… and the imprints that attach to their killer.
Violet has never considered her strange talent to be a gift; it mostly just led her to find dead birds her cat left for her. But now that a serial killer is terrorizing her small town, and the echoes of the local girls he’s claimed haunt her daily, Violet realizes she might be the only person who can stop him.
But even as she’s falling intensely in love with Jay, Violet is getting closer and closer to discovering a killer… and becoming his prey herself.

That’s the second book I get from the blog Latin Books Tour. They’re receiving such great books that I need to stop aplying for every single tour XD Thank you so much girls! Oh, the author even sent an autographed bookmark and a sticker to the readers. Isn’t she such a lady? Loved it 🙂

When I put my name on the list to this tour I didn’t know exactly what to expect from the book. I think I just subscribed because the book cover is stunning and I read many people ‘talking’ about the book. This means, when I started reading and I understood what was going to happen throughout the story at first I was worried, foreseeing a huge cliché and a book with no guts in it.

Thankfully, I’ve been guessing it wrong when it comes to books, and the story of The Body Finder showed up to be an incredible, beautiful and lovely one. With such charismatic and a little bit unreal characters (because Jay simply can’t exist in my world, he’s too good to be true!), it is impossible not to dive in to the story created by Kimberly Derting and be craving for the second and third books.

In The Body Finder we’re guided by Violet, a girl who inherits a gift from her maternal grandmother, which is sensing the echoes left behind by the murdered bodies. These echoes might be a flavor, a smell, a sound, or even a vision. And the echo isn’t just imprinted in the dead body, but also in the killer. Every people or animal that has killed something or someone carries an imprint, e because of that Violet avoids going to cemeteries, hospitals, and avoids the police. And her parents, uncle, aunt, and even her best friend support her so that she won’t suffer about this issue.

The first corpse she finds, in a very unusual way, is a girl’s body and Violet was only 8 years old. Now she’s in high school and just keeps finding other corpses, realizing that the killer can only be “sniffed” by her. Her parents don’t want her to be in a tight spot because she’s not protected while she’s alone. Then, in an attempt to look for the killer and have the great company of her BFF, with whom she’s totally in love, but she doesn’t want to tell him in any way, they go hunting. It doesn’t work out so well and she decides to go by herself looking for the killer. After that everything is a mess!

The chapters told by Violet are intercalated with the chapters told by the killer. However, we don’t have a clue of who he is until Violet gets it all by the end. I guarantee to you that all of this is told in a way that mixes passion, friendship, comfort, happiness, jealousy, fear and horror. Just so you know I had nightmares about the dead girls, just because the story is really well built and written.

However, I was not only terrified, but also I fell in love, cheering for one of the cutest couples in the literary world, Violet and Jay. They complete each other as best friends, confidants, lovers. It’s so pretty! (or maybe I’m the one who’s seeing too much love where it doesn’t exist hehe).

Anyway, the book is amazing! I definitely recommend it 🙂 (Even with the nightmares, I think I’m the one to blame. Because I got into the story and I was involved in such a way to dream about all of this. So, please, you don’t need to fear the book, c’mon!) Congratulations to Kimberly Derting, you did such a brilliant work that I just can’t wait to see what happens to this lovely girl and her wonderful boyfriend.
